White Rocks/Ice Bed Hike in Wallingford
Saturday, Aug. 7, at 9:00 a.m.
This hike has some challenging climbs, with roots and some rocks on the trail. After enjoying the view from White Rocks overlook, we'll head down to the Ice Beds, a unique feature that has pockets of cold air and often snow and ice, even in the early summer.
There are two ways to return: The way we came, which would include another climb, or an easier way that is on an old road that is a little muddy in places.
Estimated distance is about 2.5 miles; estimated time to complete the hike is about 1.5 hrs.
DIRECTIONS: From the intersection of US Rte. 7 and VT Rte. 140 at the stoplight in Wallingford village, turn east onto School St. Continue for about 2 miles, and after crossing a small concrete bridge, bear right on Sugar Hill (a gravel road) and then turn right at White Rocks Picnic Rd.; continue .5 miles to the parking lot.
