WHO WE ARE
Welcome to WalkRutland, a program of the Rutland Area Physical Activity Coalition (RAPAC) dedicated to getting people in every town in Rutland County to walk more! The idea is simple—we help you commit to and map out a personal walking plan, and we offer you a variety of walking activities, motivation and social networking to help you accomplish it. 


Why walk? Well, simply, it will make you feel better. Moderate physical activity performed most days of the week for 30 minutes can significantly improve your health. These 30 minutes do not need to be completed in one chunk of time--you can split it up into 5- or 10-minute increments and receive the same benefits. So tailor your 30 minutes of walking to fit your needs and schedule.

Here are some statistics:  Approximately 45% of adult Vermonters do not achieve the recommended amount of physical activity. In fact, 18% of all adults are not active at all.  Seventy-three percent of Vermont students do not exercise moderately five or more days per week, and they spend three or more hours per school day watching TV, playing video games or using the computer.  In addition, Rutland County is above the state average for death rate from heart disease and has the third lowest percentage of residents engaging in regular physical activity in the state.  


It's easy to join and get started with the WalkRutland program.  You can contact us through our website or phone number to sign-up.  There is no cost and lots of perks!  We have periodic discount coupons for walking and other exercise gear, free pedometers and walking logs (courtesy of Rutland Regional Medical Center), and fun promotional items from time to time.  As a member of WalkRutland, you will receive encouragement and walking updates via an e-mail newsletter and through our website to keep you walking throughout the year.  So join us and get moving!
